Have you ever had these thoughts?

Wishing you could go back in time to cherish what was? I think about The SD&AE all the time and wish I would have built a scrapbook, taken pictures or at least some notes. When I drove the mainline from 10th Ave. to Palm City a few weeks ago, nothing looks the same. I mean first theres the trolley development that overshadowed the mainline to begin with. I knew where some of the industries were, that are gone. Southern California looks like one big Costco, most of the history is gone. At least in some of the older areas of the country, they never change. I don't know what it is about Southern California that it had to change so much and it's history is in museums now.

In San Diego this past weekend

After the memorial service for my father in law, we drove the old Pacific Highway from downtown to National City. I followed the old ATSF and SDAE lines from downtown to the National City station. Boy times have changed General Dynamics now owns the shipyard, 32nd Street Naval base is all modern. I remember when locals chugged through here and bloody noses rode the SDAE rails. Not much in the way of yard left but a siding or two - All trolley action and real estate. Next trip to Campo and Jacumba.
